New York Diaries Part 3
The sirens were relentless throughout the night, which makes me wonder how I even slept so much, I guess that's what the city does to you.
Today was a big day that I had been waiting for the whole week, getting to go to Liberty Island! The views of her from the bus tour showed that it was worth it to get up early and ferry over there. I got dressed in a blue summer dress to match the lady in green herself and then made my way to breakfast.
Of course I had to go to an Applebee's, it's not everyday you're in America (unless you live there) so I sat there and ordered myself a plate of breakfast tacos with mixed grill peppers and potatoes on the side. I took in the scenery from the windows, still struggling to believe I was in the city that I saw in movies.
After my meal I headed for the most iconic part of the NYC transport system "the subway". It made me more grateful for the underground back in London, as a tourist the subway looked so confusing but it is safe to say that I got the hang of it. Some of the stops were so unique and had different aesthetics. I don't know of they were made like that specifically, but it would be interesting to research after I finish writing this.
I got off the stuffed subway and was met with the delightful views of liberty island. With the symbol of freedom standing triumphant and tall in the middle. After a few quick photos, I got myself a pretzel and lemonade as I fear you cannot get as American as that.
The Museum was brimming with all the history on how she became the symbol of America. The way she was there to welcome those young hopefuls immigrating and searching for the best opportunities and looking to peruse the great American dream.
Which brings me onto Ellis island, the first building you would step foot onto, to become a well respected citizen influencing the many generations to come. There were many booths to look at the historical archives to see if any relatives had come before you.
I hopped onto the ferry back to Battery Park and took a quiet stroll, soaking what was left of the sun. Then catching the subway back with some sweet treats to tryin the hotel room, with pizza ofc!
Laying my feet up and tucking into a classic cheesecake with 'Friends' on in the background because how can you not? It was one way to end the day!
